A Social Species

We are a very social species. If we were to isolate a person from interaction with other humans, that person would go insane. I think it was in a sociology class that I learned there is a strong correlation between not being involved in society and suicide. Maybe if we just cared more about other people, instead of being so absorbed in our own lives, fewer people would kill themselves. Telling them to love themselves does not help - it's what started the problem in the first place - the people around them were too self absorbed to empathize with these people who are virtually isolated from human contact.
